Is it difficult to directly supply molten aluminum?

Since 'direct supply of molten aluminum' can achieve cost savings of approximately 700-1000 RMB per ton of aluminum, offering significant economic and social benefits, why has it not gained widespread momentum in China after over a decade of development? Instead, it remains confined to a few suppliers and larger aluminum-consuming enterprises. This is because achieving 'direct supply of molten aluminum' requires specific conditions

1.Large demand is required for a single factory and a single variety. The demand for molten aluminum of a single grade needs to be over 40 tons per day to be economically viable. Below this scale, the cost of molten aluminum is too high, and it is not cost-effective.

2.Meeting the site selection requirements for aluminum supply companies. National regulations stipulate that no new aluminum recycling companies and production equipment can be built within 1 kilometer of environmentally sensitive areas such as ecological protection zones, nature reserves, large and medium-sized cities and their suburbs, residential concentration areas, and recuperation areas. The 1-kilometer restriction makes it very challenging for aluminum supply manufacturers to find suitable locations

3.Meeting the transportation requirements for molten aluminum. The country has strict requirements for "high-temperature materials," including molten aluminum transportation, covering aspects such as transportation vehicles, transport time, vehicle speed, transportation routes, and transportation personnel. Approval from the public security department is required before proceeding.

4. Meeting certain transportation distance requirements. To achieve direct supply of molten aluminum, aluminum supply companies and foundries need to be located in the same industrial park or within a transportation radius of 50 kilometers. Beyond this distance, transportation costs increase, and the temperature of the molten aluminum decreases, leading to higher costs for "direct supply of molten aluminum." Therefore, the current trend for "direct supply of molten aluminum" is towards establishing aluminum foundries within industrial clusters.

5.The choice of partners needs to be carefully considered. The "direct supply of molten aluminum" model requires a sense of trust and interdependence between aluminum supply companies and foundries, with shared interests and close cooperation. The lack of responsibility on either side can lead to the failure of this cooperative model and damage the interests of both parties. Due to these mutual concerns, many companies with the conditions for "direct supply of molten aluminum" cannot share this model, resembling a situation where many people express regret over being unable to enjoy a sumptuous feast.

6.The need for a comprehensive cooperation guarantee agreement between supply and demand. In the process of "direct supply of molten aluminum," any violation of the cooperation agreement by either party can lead to a production interruption for the other party. Therefore, the cooperation agreement must include terms acceptable to both parties, such as supply prices and breach of contract responsibilities, to avoid "domineering terms" that could jeopardize the longevity of the collaboration.

Given the need to meet the above conditions while adhering to the restrictions of local government policies, achieving "direct supply of molten aluminum" becomes less straightforward. However, faced with rising costs and increasingly thin profits in other areas, aluminum supply and foundry companies will surely find ways to overcome various difficulties to realize the substantial economic benefits of "direct supply of molten aluminum."

I believe the development of "direct supply of molten aluminum" in China will mature over time, with more companies embracing the concept.
